We first discovered cycling in the Costa Blanca, Spain seven years ago. Fortunate enough to have family there, it very quickly became our base for early season miles. While the UK is dark and experiencing cold, wet weather, the climate in the South East of Spain is mild and warm. With 320 days a year of sunshine, you can expect temperatures between 17 and 25oc in Spring, and we have enjoyed many early season miles in short sleeves.

We all know that the sun on your face can incite your enthusiasm. If there’s ever a time to claw back your cycling motivation, it’s early season, when you’re most likely to have a deficit of miles banked after the winter.

Our training camps are designed to offer riders the opportunity to bank a solid block of miles and raise fitness levels in the fresh air and on excellent road surfaces. Typically tapping out a steady tempo to help build your aerobic fitness, you will enjoy varied terrain from short, sharp ramps to steady 20km+ climbs on quiet roads, surrounded on all sides by beautiful scenery – a far cry from traffic clogged roads in the UK.

Typically – and this will be music to the ears of most roadies – the Spanish cafes dotted throughout the villages and hamlets in the mountains offer incredible coffee, with Espressos often just a Euro a hit. Good coffee is reward in itself but marry that to the breathtaking scenery and you’ll be in cycling Nirvana.

We would love for you to join us riding in the Costa Blanca and offer a series of Training Camps, Holidays and Short Breaks for the time-limited, where everything from transfers to guiding, accommodation and bike hire is taken care of.

The trips can be tailored to the group on arrival but the aim is to offer something for everyone. To this end, we offer customisable Training Camps as well as more relaxed Cycling Holidays and we can cater for everyone.

 What can you expect?

You will have an unforgettable time riding on the best training roads in Europe. Our base is in the Jalon Valley. The typically Spanish village of Jalon is the gateway to many stunning mountain passes that feature regularly in the Vuelta a Espana, including the Category 2 Coll de Rates and the Combre del Sol both of which are on our doorstep. Indeed, the entire Marina Alta region plays host to many pro teams in the off season : Etixx Quick Step, Astana, AG2R, Katusha, BMC and Sky to name but a few, all use the area for winter training camps thanks to the great roads and climate.

Is it for me?

Before coming on the camp you should have a reasonable level of cycling fitness but with that said,  we can tailor any week – all miles are good miles, it’s just far more pleasant in the sun! We give pace as a guide but the camps will be tailored to the group so there is nothing to fear.

As the rides are supported it may often be possible to have two groups on the road in any given camp. If you are unsure which trip would best suit you, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll be happy to guide you.

Intermediate riders can expect an average pace of between 13-15mph while the Advanced – those preparing to race or good club and sportive riders (gold standard) – can expect 15-17mph.

Please bear in mind that rides will likely be 4+ hours and contain several climbs.

Women only groups (where applicable) will be tailored to the group but there is nothing to stop ladies joining any of our other camps as has been the case in the past.
